Laser Spine Surgery

Laser Spine Surgery, as promoted by the Laser Spine Institute is viewed with a great deal of skepticism by EMT, as is all spinal disc procedures using heat. (note: this does not apply to facet nerve denervation). This procedure is not new and there is a lot of data suggesting that it has high re-operation rate, when compared to mechanical minimally-invasive methods.

The idea behind these procedures is to reduce disc bulging and sometimes the removal herniated materials by evaporating the materials. What these procedures leave behind are charred discs, which do not heal like the skin does. .

Therefore, we discourage patients from seeking this Laser Spine Surgery with us or others. Just because something sounds new and fancy, does not mean it is the best thing for a given patient.
